Choose how to reserve money for bills

The annual method reserves monthly bills × 12 ÷ 26 from every paycheck. The half-per-paycheck method reserves half of monthly bills each time, covering a typical two-paycheck month and building an additional reserve in three-paycheck months.

A practical example

If monthly bills total $3,000, the annual method reserves $1,384.62 per check. The half-per-paycheck method reserves $1,500. Neither method changes the actual due dates of your bills.

Method & assumptions

Remaining per paycheck = take-home pay − bill reserve − savings. Annual figures assume 26 equal paychecks. Your entered take-home amount is used as-is; there is no tax estimate.

The annual method needs an existing cash buffer: two paychecks may not reserve enough for that month’s bills. The conservative method reserves 13 months of bills over 26 checks. This is a planning worksheet, not a dated cash-flow forecast.
